Sonia, Azad express anguish over deaths in J&K violence in J&K

NEW DELHI : Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad today expressed concern over the loss of several lives in violence in Jammu and Kashmir over the past few days.
Terming it “senseless violence”, Ms Gandhi said,”There can be no compromise on matters relating to National Security. Terrorism must be dealt with firmly. Even so, the death of so many of our citizens and attack on security forces is very painful.”
Making a plea that the gains made in the political process in the state over the last two decades should not be lost, Ms Gandhi said,”The political process has made many gains in J and K, particularly over the last two decades, and these must not get lost.
I appeal to my brothers and sisters in the Valley to allow political parties to find durable and enduring ways of fulfilling their aspirations meaningfully in a peaceful and democratic manner.”
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and AICC General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad also expressed profound grief and sorrow over the untimely death of more than 19 people during the violence in various parts of the Kashmir Valley.
While expressing his heartfelt condolences to members of the bereaved family in this hour of grief, Mr Azad also expressed deep concern on the deteriorating law and order situation in the valley in which irreparable collateral damage has taken place.
”The need of the hour is to ensure that the law and order is restored at the earliest without any further loss of lives,”Mr Azad said.
He also wished a speedy recovery to more than 200 civilians and security personnel who were injured during the violence. (AGENCIES)
