JAMMU, Apr 26: The School of Business at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University organized an interactive session on “Govt as Enabler: BRAP and Ease of Doing Business in the UT of J&K,” featuring Nagendra Singh Jamwal, Special Secretary in the Chief Secretary’s Office. The session aimed to familiarize students with key policy reforms shaping the business environment in Jammu and Kashmir.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr Ashutosh Vashishtha, Dean, faculty of Management. In his keynote interaction, Jamwal highlighted the significance of the Business Reforms Action Plan (BRAP), an initiative of DPIIT launched in 2014 to enhance investor confidence through digitization and simplified regulatory processes.
A major focus of the session was “Deregulation 2.0,” under which several progressive reforms have been introduced. Jamwal explained that the removal of the “Change in Land Use” (CLU) requirement and the adoption of the “Permitted until Prohibited” principle have significantly streamlined approvals for construction and industrial projects. He also underlined sector-specific measures, including the removal of minimum land requirements for private educational institutions and enhanced ease for MSMEs through self-declaration and reduced inspection burdens.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Arti Maini, Head of the School of Business, who emphasized the importance of such interactions in preparing students for the evolving business landscape of J&K while acknowledging the support provided by Prof Suparn, Dr Rashi Taggar, Dr Divya Jamwal and Dr Sarabjyot Singh faculty members of the School.
