SRINAGAR, Dec 19: The anti-polythene squad of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) seized at least 15 quintals of polythene from Chattabal area here during raids. The raids were carried out in Chattabal area and the adjoining ones.
As per a press release, the raids were conducted under the supervision of Chief Sanitation Officer Manzoor Ahmed Turray and Anti Polythene Officer Mir Mansoor. The defaulter namely Ghulam Nabi Sofi, a wholesale packaging dealer by profession was prosecuted and an FIR was lodged against him.
Quoting Joint Commissioner (administration) SMC, Fayaz Ahmad Balla, the release said that SMC will act tough against the people who use or sell polythene. Fayaz said that the court has already imposed a ban on sale and use of polythene and whosoever carries out this trade would be brought to book.
