SRINAGAR, Dec 12: The causal labourers working with the drainage circle of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) today threatened to suspend the dewatering services of the city if Government fails to regularize their jobs within 15 days.
These remarks were made by Presidents of Drainage Daily Wagers Association Imtiaz Ahmad, during a press conference here. He said around 80 dewatering stations and 150 pumps in the city are being managed by casual workers.
He said that they have submitted a list of around 112 against the vacant posts in the drainage circle of the Corporation but has failed to achieve desired results. “The file is pending with the Commissioner Secretary for the last three months and awaiting approval,” he said, adding that Commissioner of Corporation has recommended to regularize their services under special provisions of the Municipality Act 2014.
He complained that the Government is forcing them to suspend the service by not fulfilling their demands. “Our children are suffering in absence a job policy. Government is forcing us to suspend the service,” he said.
Meanwhile, the employees have sought Lt. Governor, G C Murmu’s intervention into the matter.
