SRINAGAR, June 28: A Corporator of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) today alleged assault by the Srinagar Deputy Mayor after the Corporator raised objections over land grabbing in the Rainawari area.
Asif Beigh who is SMC’s Corporator from the Jogi Lankar area of Rainawari said that Deputy Mayor Parvez Qadri was misusing the personal security that has been provided to him by the Government as he was allegedly “manhandled” by him.
Beigh said that his raising voice against the land grabbers irritated the Deputy Mayor whose brother initially had threatened him of dire consequences. “After that, the Deputy Mayor slapped and manhandled me in the premises of Srinagar Municipal Corporation,” he said.
As per Beigh, a National Conference leader has grabbed public land in the area meant for a park. However, after raising their voice against the violation, he said, the Deputy Mayor assaulted him. “I even got injuries and later lodged a complaint against him,” he said, adding that the Deputy Mayor even abused him in front of everyone
The Corporator alleged that the Deputy Mayor is misusing his security including SSB men to threaten people. The SMC Corporator said that his fault is that he objects to the corrupt practices in the Corporation and that why he is being targeted by the Deputy Mayor.
“Multiple FIRs stand registered against the Deputy Mayor. I appeal DG Police and Anti-Corruption Bureau to investigate corruption cases against the Deputy Mayor,” Beigh added.
