SLSA reaches out to flood victims

JAMMU, Sept 14: Chief Justice of State High Court, Justice M M Kumar, who is also Patron-in-Chief of State Legal Services Authority along with Justice Virender Singh, Judge, Executive Chairman of SLSA, today visited the relief camps opened for flood affected people at Yatri Bhawani, Bhagwati Nagar and Khatika Talab to take stock of the facilities being provided to them by the district administration.
The flood affected people apprised Justice Kumar and Justice Singh about the problems being faced by them. They were asked to approach the Legal Aid Clinics opened for them by SLSA. The Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs), who are working 24 hours in the temporary Legal Aid Clinics, were directed to forward the grievances of the victims to the district administration for redressal.
The Core Group headed by Prem Sagar, Additional Mobile Magistrate, Jammu was directed to ensure immediate help of Government and non-Government Agencies to flood affected victims, coordinate with different departments and NGOs for bringing immediate relief to flood affected victims, supervise the distribution of relief materials to victims, construction of temporary shelters, health care and sanitation of the flood affected victims and prevent spread of epidemics amongst inhabitants of these areas.
He was further directed to supervise the need of women and children, ensure availability of food, medicines and drinking water to flood affected victims, get the benefit of the promises and assurances announced by the Government, assist their re-habilitation, care and future education of children etc.
Patron-in-Chief and Executive Chairman also distributed blankets and clothes to the flood victims. While appreciating the job being done by Shahnaz Akhter, Assistant Commissioner (G), Jammu, on spot directions were also given by Patron-in-Chief to the district administration through her, for providing blankets, potable drinking water, water tanks, medical facilities, eatables and other day to day requirements of the flood affected people, especially the women, old and children.
On the spot direction was also given for engagement of Susheel Kumar, a graduate flood affected victim, as PLV on temporary basis in the Legal Aid Clinic opened at Yatri Bhawan temporarily.
Registrar Vigilance, High Court of J&K, A K Koul, Chairman, DLSA, Jammu, R S Jain, Secretary, J&K High Court Legal Services Committee, R N Watal, Joint Registrar J&K High Court Jammu, Ajay Gupta and Chairman, Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Jammu, Suresh Katal were also present on the occasion.
