JAMMU, Nov 25: Agrometeorology Section of SKUAST Jammu organized one day “Farmer awareness cum input distribution programme” at the main campus, here today.
Prof J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-J graced the occasion as chief guest while Dr Pardeep Wali, Director Research and Dr B C Sharma, Dean FoA, SKUAST-Jammu, were guests of honour of the programme.
In his address, Prof J P Sharma highlighted the various activities undertaken by the university for welfare of the farmers for boosting their income from agriculture enterprises. He emphasized the farmer community to come forward regarding their agricultural related problems. The Vice-chancellor also distributed 100 packets of Wheat seed variety DBW-222 to the farmers of different border villages.
Dr Pardeep Wali stressed upon the farmers to adopt the new climate resilient technologies developed by SKUAST-Jammu. He encouraged the farmers to work in a collective approach to take the maximum output from field by reducing the input used in field.
Dr B C Sharma, Dean FoA, highlighted the various climate smart agronomical operations for enhancing the productivity of different crop in relation to weather. He also highlighted the importance of diversification of crops in traditional cropping system.
The programme was preceded by Dr Mahender Singh, Professor and Incharge AICRPAM, Agrometeorology Section who emphasized the use of weather and climate based agro-advisories in day to day agricultural activities and stressed upon the farmers to make more and more utilization in order to save the input cost of various crops by adopting forecasting rendered by Agrometeorology Section of SKUAST-Jammu.
Dr Amrish Vaid, Nodal Officer Mega Seed, emphasized the management of various integrated disease management practices in rabi crops. Dr Anjani Kumar Singh, Sr Scientist, Mega Seed, explained the farmers regarding Improved seed multiplication techniques of various crops at farmer field. Dr Ramphool Puniya, Jr Scientist Weed Management explained the farmers about effective weed management. Dr Veena Sharma, Technical Officer, GKMS highlighted importance of weather based agro advisories in day today farm operations. Dr M C Diwedi, Dr Vishal Raina, Dr Charu Sharma, Dr Monika Banotra, Ramdhan, Dharamvir and other staff of Agrometeorology and Mega seed also participated in this programme.
