SRINAGAR, July 30: The Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, has undergone significant reorganization, designating senior faculty members to oversee the functioning of various departments and areas of operation. The decisions made in this regard, are based on recommendations made during the Dean’s Committee meeting this month.
Under the new designations, the Department of Clinical Research at SKIMS, Soura will now operate under the overall supervision and control of the Director, SKIMS, Dr Parvaiz A. Koul.
At the same time, Dr Peerzada Umar Farooq Baba, an Additional Professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery, has been appointed to assist the Director in ensuring the smooth conduct of the department’s activities. Dr Baba, as per the directives issued, will carry out this role in addition to his regular duties for a period of two years or until further orders are issued.
In line with the committee’s recommendations, the National Medical Commission (NMC) Section at SKIMS will function under the supervision of Prof. Fazlul Qadir Parray from the Department of General Surgery. Prof. Parray will shoulder the additional responsibility of overseeing the Section’s functioning for a duration of two years or until further orders.
Similarly, the Multi-disciplinary Research Unit (MRU) of the hospital will now be led by Prof. Rauf Ahmad Wani from the Department of General Surgery. Prof. Wani has been appointed as the In-Charge of MRU, SKIMS, in addition to his regular duties for a period of two years, following the committee’s recommendations.
Furthermore, Prof. Javid Rasool, Head of the Department of Clinical Haematology, has been designated as the Convenor of the Lab. Group, SKIMS. In addition to his existing responsibilities, Prof. Rasool will fulfil this role for a period of two years.
As per the directives, the newly established Skill Lab at SKIMS will be now under the joint supervision of Prof. Ajaz Ahmad Lone from the Department of Cardiology and Dr Gowhar Nazir Mufti, an Additional Professor from the Department of Paediatric Surgery.
Both doctors have been entrusted with the responsibility of managing the operations of the Skill Lab, SKIMS, along with their regular duties, for a period of two years or until further orders.
Lastly, under the committee’s recommendations, Prof. Mir Iftikhar Bashir from the Department of Endocrinology has been appointed as the Controller of Examinations, SKIMS Deemed University.
Prof. Bashir, as per the decision made, will carry out this role alongside his current responsibilities for a period of two years or until further arrangements are made. He will also continue to serve as the Deputy Controller of Examinations, SKIMS Deemed University until suitable alternatives are found.
The officials said that these designations aim to streamline the functioning of various departments at SKIMS and optimize the delivery of medical services and research efforts.
