SRINAGAR, July 15: A prominent surgeon and unit head of upper Gastro-Intestine Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic surgery at SKIMS, was invited as a guest speaker at the prestigious International Gastric Cancer Congress, highest international forum on gastric cancer in the world, held in Verona, Italy, last week.
A statement of the tertiary health institute said Dr Sameer Naqash, a fellow at National Cancer Center, Tokyo, Japan, in gastrointestinal cancers, has been the only doctor invited to the Congress from SAARC countries.
The forum meets every three years to discuss the different modalities of screening and treatment for gastric cancer. The invites include eminent doctors and scientists all over world.
Dr Naqash who is also honorary member of Japan Cancer Association presented his research paper titled Total Gastric Resection with J Pouch Reconstruction which involves reconstruction of new stomach after removing the stomach for cancer which finally helps patients to get nutritional benefits which otherwise patients are deprived of after stomach removal, the statement said.
Director SKIMS Dr. Showkat A Zargar has congratulated Dr Naqash, saying his participation has helped the State will generate interest in international community towards this killer disease which has high prevalence in our State, especially in South Kashmir.
