SRINAGAR, Aug 19: Police today detained half-a-dozen employees of Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura who were demanding removal of Director.
The non-gazetted employees of the SKIMS Soura are demanding the removal of Director Dr Showkat Zargar, accusing him of “being corrupt and incompetent”.
The employees were detained this morning at 9:30 when they were supposed to sit on one hour protest inside the premises of the hospital. However, the police foiled their protest and detained six employees. They were detained in nearby Soura police station.
Condemning the police action, the employees alleged that they were dragged and humiliated by cops. They said that they weren’t criminals but were supposed to hold a peaceful protest.
The employees have appealed to constitute a panel headed by retired judge to probe the alleged embezzlement of funds by the Director.
Meanwhile, in an emergency meeting today, the Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) and Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) condemned the ‘arrest’ of SKIMS employees who were demanding removal of Director SKIMS Dr Showkat Zargar.
In a joint statement, the president of DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan and president of EJAC Abdul Qayoom Wani said that the “barbaric police action against SKIMS employees is against free opinion and is unacceptable”.
“SKIMS has been turned into a garrison where Director SKIMS has become a dictator who with the help of police has unleashed reign of terror against employees who are raising voice against his misdeeds,” the duo said in a statement.
