Skill development training prog for cricket bats manufacturers

JAMMU, Nov 15: Director Industries & Commerce, Jammu Anoo Malhotra reviewed the progress of skill development training for the youth of Jammu Division in cricket bat manufacturing at ITI R.S.Pura.
Director Technical Education. Sajad Hussain Ganai, was part of deliberations and called for making the training aligned with NQSF wherein it was reiterated that initially this programme will be short term course and subsequently the course will be upgraded to the full term NQSF course.
Government of India has sanctioned a project to Sports Goods Exports Promotion Council (Sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry GoI) nodal agency for sports Goods and toys and a training programme is being organised for the Cricket bat manufacturing in Jammu. This programme will be held in joint collaboration of Industries and Commerce Department, Directorateof Technical Education and MSME-Technology Development Centre Merrut and Cricket Bat Association Jammu.
Initially, a short term course for cricket bat manufacturing will be initiated at ITI RS Pura for atleast 25 candidates and will be introduced as subject in Carpentry trade. Training of trainers will be organised wherein the experts of the domain /master trainers will train the trainers of Industrial Training Institutes so as to develop the local skilled resource for the cricket bat manufacturing industry.
The deliberations were held to provide stipend of Rs 1000 to the trainee students under Apprenticeship scheme of MSME and also initially the raw material will be provided by the Cricket bat association Jammu. There are about 400 cricket bat manufacturing units in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir with annual turnover of Rs 10 crores providing employments to about 10000 people and contributing to the economy of J&K. The raw material available in J&K is of excellent quality and this sector has proven export potential.
Meeting was attended by Joint Director I&C Jammu General Manager DIC Jammu, Superintendent ITI RS Pura and president Cricket Bat Association Bansi lal Gupta.
