JAMMU, Sept 6: To provide relief to daily commuters and to ease the traffic congestion on the city roads, Minister for Roads and Buildings Abdul Rehman Veeri today said that the single tube traffic on 4th bridge on river Tawi will be restored by September 12.
The Minister informed this after reviewing the status of renovation works on the 4th bridge being executed by the Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation (JKPCC).
Minister of State for Transport, Revenue, Public Works (Roads & Buildings), Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Agriculture Production, YSS, Sunil Kumar Sharma accompanied the Minister during his visit to the site.
Earlier, the Minister chaired a meeting of officers of JKPCC to review the pace of development works being executed by the Corporation.
Managing Director JKPCC Dilip Thusoo informed the Minister about the status of various projects. The Minister directed him to expedite the pace of works and ensure their timely completion. He asked the concerned officers to put in concerted efforts to create durable assets for the society.
The Minister asked the concerned to initiate the construction works of New Polytechnic Colleges at Udhampur, Kishtwar, Doda and Poonch. While reviewing the status of works at New Legislative Complex Jammu, he directed  MD JKPCC to expedite the pace of works on the project.
There should be no unnecessary delay in completing the projects as they are linked with the development of the people in one or other way, the Minister said.
He said that the people have huge expectations especially of far flung areas and that can be fulfilled with the sincere efforts of JKPCC. He also said that construction of roads and bridges is the priority of the Government.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State, Sunil Kumar Sharma directed concerned officers to gear up the men and machinery and prioritize the works on important ongoing projects and complete them in given time frame.
Meanwhile, Veeri reviewed the pace of ongoing projects being executed by R&B Department.
During the meeting the  Minister assessed the performance of the department with regard to execution of various  projects  in Jammu divison like alternate road connectivity to Nikki Tawi, 200 bedded Maternity hospital Gandhi Nagar, construction of Medical College at Rajouri, Khour, Buddhal, Surankote, Trade Facilitation Centre at Chakkan Da Bagh, Model Degree College Kathua, Govt Polytechnic College Kathua.
While  reviewing  the road  projects under Central Road Funds (CRF), Inter State Connectivity projects (ISC), NABARD Loan assistance from RIDF XII to , Veeri directed the SE and Executive Engineers to ensure that there is no cost overrun in any of the projects.
He further asked the concerned engineers  to ensure that the projects under CRF, ISC and  NABARD should not involve forest land or private land where the need for compensation arises and other formalities cause unnecessary delay in the completion of projects as the Government of India schemes do not involve any separate funding for compensation segment.
The Minister further stressed on  focusing on the far flung  and inaccessible areas so that developmental activities in these areas can be fast tracked . He further directed the department to  submit  a detailed performance report with respect to all areas  so as to ensure that  developmental needs are met equitably.
