JAMMU, Nov 1: To lodge their protest against 1984 Sikh genocide, a candle light march was organized by National Sikh Front (NSF) and Justice for Victims Organization.
The candle light march started from Ekta Vihar and culminated at Bandha Singh Bahadur Chowk, Kunjwani in which hundreds of Sikhs took part.
“If Narendra Modi Government is serious then it should constitute a SIT at national level, fast track courts, re-open cases, challenge Sajjan Kumar’s acquittal in High Court, throw all party leaders out of party who joined Congress during massacre, punish accused 72 police officers responsible for this, enact a strong anti-communal ethnic violence law in Parliament, start police, judicial, administrative reforms and accept that it was a genocide not riots”, said one of the participant Virinderjit Singh.
He added that Sikhs are in capacity to repay back double the amount of compensation. Punish the culprits Jagdish Tytler, Sajjan Kumar and others, he said.
“There should be trial against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Kamal Nath and Manmohan Singh for backing and supporting the culprits”, he demanded.
Kulwant Singh Bhatti said that it still makes heartache to see Sikhs demanding justice for 30 years and still not receiving even an ounce of justice. Sikhs have been fighting for rights and freedom for others and will continue to fight till justice is served, he added.
“The violation of human rights in 1984 was not just a Sikh issue it was an issue of minority rights in India. Countless minority groups have been targeted and oppressed in the 65 years since the independence of India, and the continued denial of justice perpetuates the marginalization of these groups. Until there is accountability for these human rights violations, minority communities will continue to feel isolated and aliened and as long as this continues, Sikhs across the globe will continue to stand up against these injustices”, said Gurdyal Singh Bali.
Bali said recently a US-based Sikh human rights group lodged a criminal complaint against Amitabh Bachchan in Australia for instigating and abetting 1984 anti Sikh massacre, he added.
