Sikhs organize religious function at Chand Nagar Gurdwara

JAMMU, Dec 27: Management Committee of Gurudwara Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Chand Nagar  organized an impressive religious function (Kirtan-Darbar) on the Shaheedi Divas (Martyrdom day)  of  Sahibzada Zorawar Singh,  Fateh Singh  and Mata Gujri which was observed with great  religious fervour here.
The Sikh Sangat  from Jammu city and adjoining areas reached the Gurudwara for offering special prayers and to participate in this grand ‘Kirtan- Darbar’. The citizens from all walks also attended the function. The Guru- ka- Langar was also arranged and  ‘Parsad’ served  amongst the devotees.
Ragi  Jathas  Bhai Sahib Bhai Gurjot Singh,  Bhai Sahib Bhai Tejinder Singh, Bhai Sahib Bhai Gurmeet Singh  and Parcharak Bhai Sahib Bhai Harmeet Singh Makhanpuri recited the Kirtan.  The ‘parcharaks’ also highlighted the history of martyrdom  telling that   on 26 December 1705, Baba Fateh Singh was cruelly and mercilessly martyred at Sirhind along with his elder brother, Zorawar Singh. He is probably the youngest recorded martyr in history who knowingly and consciously laid down his life at the very tender age of 6 years.  They did not budge an inch from their position in spite of several allurements by the Nawab and Qazi.
The children also recited the  poetry on the occasion and they were honored with ‘Siropa’.
While speaking on the occasion S Kulvinder Singh, president Management Committee of the Gurudwara Sahib demanded to declare the Gurdwara Guru Nanak Dev Ji Chand  Nagar as historical place and put it on Tourist map. The shops of Municipal Committee in Chand Nagar falling in the precincts of  this  Gurdwara be removed and Miniority Community status to Sikh Community being microscopic minority be accorded.
The participants also urged upon the State Chief Minister to name the Kunjwani Chowk as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk,  implementation of Ansari Commission report on 1989 anti Sikh riots in J&K and settlement of claims.
He demanded that State Government should immediately settle the claims of 1947 refugees by giving them property rights of  Evacuee Property and compensation.
All the office bearers of management committee  Baldev Singh, Inderjeet Singh,  Jaswinder Singh, Harmeet Singh and Navneet Singh  were also present on occasion.
Sukhbir Singh, president Management Committee Gurudwara Baba Chanda Singh Ji alongwith Committee members Surinder Singh Shinda, Gurmeet Singh Pinka also attended the function.
