Sikh bodies demand representation in Cabinet

JAMMU, Apr 22:  Various Sikh bodies of the State have demanded representation in the State Cabinet, claiming that there has been no Sikh Cabinet rank Minister in the J&K Government for more than a decade.

Addressing  a joint press conference here today, Jagjeet Singh president DGPC Jammu, Manjeet Singh from Kashmir Sikh Sangat, Jathedar Mohinder Singh from SAD (B) J&K, Kashmir Singh (KSS)  strongly demanded cabinet berth for a leader from this minority community in the State.
They said, “we have voted for BJP so that we can get our representation in the State Government. We are thankful that Charanjeet Singh Khalsa was inducted as MLC but we feel that it is the time BJP should induct him into the Cabinet rank so that Sikh don’t feel that they are being neglected in BJP-PDP Government”.
Charanjeet Singh Khalsa represents the Sikh community in both the areas including far-flung areas of Kashmir as well as Jammu where the Sikh community is living and facing hardships but have no representative where they can go for the redressal of their grievances and support.
This demand of Sikh community came days before BJP is scheduled to carry a major reshuffle in State Cabinet after all of its Cabinet rank ministers submitted their resignation to State party president Sat Sharma. BJP is expected to bring new faces into Cabinet.
The members of Sikh community appealed BJP high command to look into this long pending demand of this minority community.
“We are hopeful that BJP top leadership including Amit Shah and Ram Madhav will give our community representation in upcoming Cabinet reshuffle. We appeal BJP top brass to take a positive call this time”, they maintained.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included- Babu Singh ( gen secy Shiromani Akali Dal, Badal J&K), Sewa Singh (president, Kashmir Sikh Sangat), Capt Bana Singh (Paramveer Chakra),  HS Raina (Member, DGPC), Suchwant Singh (Ex-Director Agriculture), Jagjeet Singh (Convener, MJR-47), Gurjeet Singh ( gen secy J&K Lobana Biradari), Joginder Singh Bali (Prominent businessman), Advocate Surinder Singh, Ajit Singh Mastana (Punjabi Sahitya Sabha), Sukhdev Singh (Chairman, Lobana Biradari, RS Pura) and Harbans Singh (Contractor from Baramulla).
