Shutdown paralyzes life

SRINAGAR, Oct 9: Life across Kashmir was paralyzed today by a shutdown amid restrictions against braid chopping incidents which was called by joint separatist leadership of Kashmir.
All the shops, commercial establishments and educational institutes were closed across summer capital here since morning while transport was off the roads. Due to shutdown, the banks and Government offices recorded thin attendance. Apprehending protests, authorities imposed restrictions in seven police station areas of the City.
The curbs were imposed in Maharaj Gunj, Rainawari, Safa Kadal, Khanyar, Rainawari, Maisuma and Kralkhud police station areas since morning hours. Hundreds of police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) men were deployed in these areas to enforce curbs. The security forces had erected barbed wires and mobile bunkers at key junctions.
Due to shutdown, the roads and streets across the city were deserted and people preferred to stay indoors.  The shutdown was also observed in other parts of the Valley on separatist call. The inter-district transport service also remained suspended due to shutdown call. The Banihal-Baramulla rail service remained suspended today.
Meanwhile, a minor boy was seriously injured after miscreants pelted stones on vehicles near Pahoo Bridge in Pulwama district of south Kashmir. “Today in the morning some miscreants blocked Pulwama-Srinagar road at Pahoo Bridge following the band/shutdown call by separatists,” a police spokesman said.
He said the miscreants pelted stones on the private as well as commercial vehicles plying on the road in which one minor boy Sifti Hyder son of Reyaz Ahmad Malik resident of Gangoo Pulwama, about 5 years old, travelling in a sumo vehicle, was seriously injured after he was hit by a stone, pelted by miscreants, on his head.
“The injured boy was shifted to District Hospital Pulwama for treatment where from he was referred to SMHS Hospital Srinagar in critical condition for further treatment. Subsequently a police party rushed to the spot and chased away the miscreants. Police have registered a case FIR number 344/2017 under Sections 307, 148, 149, 336, 427 RPC in this regard and investigation has been taken up,” he said.
