Showers bring relief in Jammu

JAMMU, June 28: After mild wind storm, showers in Jammu, Katra, Batote and heavy rains in Kathua have brought relief to the people as there was immediate decrease in day temperature by around 5 degrees after the rains.
The maximum temperature today was 40.6 degrees in Jammu, which was reduced to 35.4 degrees immediately after the rains and there was much decrease in the temperature as the day progressed.
According to sources in the Department of Metrology, it were the normal rains that lashed Jammu City and Kathua and not the pre-monsoon. The sources further informed that the first monsoon rains in Jammu are expected by the end of first week of July.
However, the sources said that chances of rains are also on June 30, and a good amount of rainfall is expected in major parts of Jammu province on July 2 and July 3.
Sources added that the wind storm before the rains has not caused any major damage to the property in the province.
Meanwhile, Kathua has observed heavy rains for one hour from 5 to 6 pm, which has brought blissful feeling to the farmers, who were waiting in the wings for showers to be beneficial for paddy fields.
