We have a long border with Pakistan, China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal and Bhutan. For internal security and also for border security, we need very large paramilitary force to man these borders. Obviously, unavoidable infrastructure is needed, and at the moment we have shortage of about 600 medical professionals in these paramilitaries. In CRPF alone there are 123 posts vacant for specialist medical officers in various important disciplines like Medicine, Surgery and Orthopaedics. Almost all Para-military forces are short of medical professionals. In view of this the Home Ministry has decided to make the recruitment as regulars with the rank of Deputy Commandants (specialist doctors) and Assistant Commandants (medical officers) in forces like Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Sashastra Seema Bal and Assam Rifles.
We hope that young professionals coming out of medical colleges will feel proud to join the Para-military force of the country which is engaged in the honourable task of protecting the country from internal subversion and challenges. Doctors freshly coming out of professional institutions should volunteer to join the paramilitary force at least for first five years of their career. In some countries of the world, medical professionals are required under law to serve in the army for a definite period of time. No such rule exists in our country. But keeping in mind that there is huge shortage of doctors in our paramilitary forces, it becomes the duty of our young professionals to volunteer for such service and their parents should rightly feel proud that their wards are serving the nation with distinction.
