Shiv Sena stages protest, asks youth to stay away from drugs

JAMMU, Sept 18: Expressing serious concern over growing drug addiction among the youth of J&K, Shiv Sena J&K unit vowed to make the UT drug-free.
Leading a protest demonstration here today Manish Sahni, president J&K Shiv Sena asked the Hookah Bars owners running their shops secretly and making the youth victim of drugs under the guise of Herbal Hookah to immediately shut their shops else Shiv Sena will act strictly with them.
He appealed youth to stay away from drugs.
“Most of the youths do not even know when they get addicted to Hookah while consuming it just for thrill,” the Shiv Sena leader maintained adding: “Police administration should immediately shutdown these illegal Hookah Bars as the growing trend of Bars is playing a big role in pushing the younger generation towards drugs.”
He claimed that drug trade in J&K is growing with every passing day.
Quoting a report by AIIMS and National Drug Dependence Treatment Center, Sahni said that J&K has become a drug hub with about 6 lakh young drug addicts here, out of which 90 per cent are in the age group of 17-33.
He said that ever-increasing unemployment is one of the main reasons for increasing drug addiction in J&K and added that J&K stands at first position among the five states with highest unemployment rate in the country.
Shiv Sena women wing president, Meenakshi Chibber; general secretary, Vikas Bakshi; Geeta Lakhotra and others were also present in the protest.
