Shifting of Medical College ill-advised step: Shabir

Excelsior Correspondent
RAJOURI, May 13: Former Minister and PCC general secretary Shabir Ahmad Khan strongly criticized the move of the Government to construct the proposed Medical College, Rajouri at a place which is far away from the District headquarters and would deprive most of the population of twin border districts of Poonch- Rajouri from the medical facilities.
Strongly objecting to move of the Government, Mr Khan described it as most ill-advised step which is bound to make the entire population of two border districts suffer for all times to come who would not be in a position to avail the privilege and medical facilities in the area.
Mr Khan said that the purpose of sanctioning the Government Medical College by the UPA Government under the leadership of the then Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was to cater to the medical needs of the remote and backward districts. He said the entire purpose would be defeated just for the political vested interests of few individuals by shifting the proposed location from the District Headquarters to a place which is far away from the town as well as Rajouri Poonch highway. This would deprive the people right from Sunderbani to Poonch from availing this facility in the proposed Medical College and Hospital.
He further said that this would a great disservice by the PDP- BJP Government to the people of this border region, who are highly resentful over this move of the State and Central Governments. He warned an agitation if the decision was not reviewed.
