*Attends conference at Lucknow

JAMMU, Nov 24: Commissioner Secretary Department of Social Welfare Sheetal Nanda today batted for a single, combined and parent law encompassing all existing legislations for the safety of women.
She was addressing conference on “creating enabling ecosystem for women’s empowerment and safety” at Lucknow which was attended by Secretary, Union Ministry of Women and Child Development, senior officers from Ministry of Women and Child Development and senior officers from 17 states and UTs.
She said that there are various legislations which ensure women’s safety and security like Domestic Violence Act, Dowry Prohibition Act, Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, Sexual Harassment Against Women at Workplace Act and Child Marriage Prohibition Act.
Sheetal Nanda gave an example of Juvenile Justice Act, which is inclusive of providing relief, remedy and all required things for a child in conflict with law and said that Government of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is making all effort to address the problems of women.
“One Stop Centers have been established in all 20 districts of the Union Territory and each Center gives interim shelter and support to women suffering from domestic violence”, she said, adding “similarly 148 Child Development Project Officers have been designated as Protection Officers”.
Earlier, Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh Durga Shanker Mishra revealed how Swach Bharat Abhiyan has changed the lives of women in rural India. He emphasised upon inclusion of women empowerment in education syllabus in a manner which will elevate status of even household women.
