Shavan reviews manufacturing preparedness of liquor units

*Poppy crop on 60 kanal land destroyed

JAMMU, May 23: Excise Commissioner (EC) Rajesh Kumar Shavan today visited various distilling/bottling plants of liquor in Samba district and reviewed their preparedness of manufacturing.
Shavan was accompanied by senior officers of Excise Departments including Bharat Singh DC Accounts, Atul Sharma Technical Officer/OSD and Himinshi (ETO). The Commissioner interacted with management of the manufacturing units and reviewed their preparedness for manufacturing.
It is pertinent to mention that due to lockdown, liquor couldn’t be manufactured but as the liquor shops have been opened now, they require continuous production and supply. The Excise Department, in last three days, has carried out a business of around Rs 18 crores and there has been tremendous demand for liquor.
While reviewing the work of excise officials, the EC directed the ETOs to ensure the quality standards and desired to have joint meeting with all chemists of these industrial units for better quality management.
Pertinent to mention here that 114 wine shops have been thrown open across the UT as stand alone shops having space for queue and customers for ensuring social distancing and for rest of shops the department has asked the respective Deputy Commissioners to take final call as per their convenience in view of requirement of enforcing social distancing.
Meanwhile, under directions of EC and under the supervision of Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive) Kashmir Tahir Ajaz, a team of Central Excise Range Srinagar- Ganderbal-Budgam today conducted destruction drive of illicit poppy crop with three teams on 60 kanals of land in tehsils Chadoora, BK Pora and Budgam of Budgam district.
Giving details of the destruction of poppy crop, a spokesman of Excise Department said that the team destroyed poppy crop on 6 kanal of land at Kultrah and on 5 kanal at Rangeen village of tehsil Chadoora while in Chattergam village of tehsil B K Pora, the poppy crop was destroyed on 13 Kanal of land. Similarly, in village Jawalapora of tehsil Budgam, poppy was destroyed on 36 kanal of land.
He said that the destruction was conducted after identification of land by Revenue Department in presence of revenue officials (coordinated and monitored by District Administration).
