Sham kick starts election campaign

AKHNOOR, Oct 29: Senior Congress leader and Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma kick started the election campaign in his home constituency Akhnoor and addressed three well attended public meetings at Kotli Tanda, Gurah Talab and Kandi.
Seeking support for his candidature, Mr. Sham asked the people to vote for Congress Party which is symbol of peace, unity, prosperity, mutual brotherhood and development of the State. He said Congress is the only party which can ensure unity, integrity and keep united all communities which is must for strengthening the nation. Congress has always voiced the concern of the common man in every forum and tried to fulfill their aspirations. The country has progressed tremendously under the regime of Congress and several people friendly welfare programmes were launched which were well taken by the people, said Mr. Sham.
Exuding hope that the Congress alone will form the next Government in the State, the Minister asked the people to support the party wholeheartedly to accomplish the unfinished tasks initiated by the Coalition Government. He cautioned the people against the mischievous, design of parties like BJP and PDP, adding that these parties have hidden agenda of disintegrating the people in the name of religion, castes, regions which creates distrust and unrest in the society.
He said ours is a pluralistic society and there is no place for such elements which promote the castism and religions, therefore, Congress is the only viable alternate and people must support and strengthen it at the grass root level and ensure victory of its candidates throughout the State.
Listing the development initiatives taken by him during his tenure as Minister and MLA, Mr. Sham asked the people to compare the entire scenario with the previous regimes for the past over four decades and  exercise their right of franchise purely according to their inner voice. He said the Akhnoor town has been brought at the national tourist circuit and many new tourist spots were developed during the past over one decade.
Many schools were opened, upgraded to promote the education in this border constituency. Three major projects namely, Ayurvedic College, Nursing College and District hospital are the hallmark symbols in the history of Akhnoor constituency, said Mr. Sham.
