NEW DELHI, Dec 8: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary today called on Union Minister for Rural Development Panchayati Raj, Drinking Water and Sanitation, Narendra Singh Tomar to discuss implementation of various centrally sponsored programmes in J&K.
Sham Choudhary informed the Union Minister about steps being taken by the State Government for providing potable water to the people at their doorstep by constructing new Water Supply Schemes under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) and other centrally sponsored programmes.
He requested the Union Minister for release of pending funds and demanded that funding under NRDWP should be increased so that remaining work of various ongoing Water Supply Schemes can be completed well within time. This will help the State Government in covering more villages under piped water supply, he added.
Keeping in view the tough terrain and huge geographical area of the State, the Union Minister appreciated the efforts of PHE Department for ensuring that every part of the state gets clean drinking water.
Tomar asked PHE Minister to make plans for augmenting water supply in Kandi areas and assured that the Centre will provide full support for the benefit of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
