RAJOURI, Sept 7: Shabir Ahmed Khan, former Health Minister and MLA Rajouri today visited Thanamandi area and condoled the demise of 13 persons who were buried alive under their house due to heavy rains and landslides.
Khan also participated in the funeral of the deceased persons and expressed deep sorrow and grief over the tragic incident. Khan along with Additional DC Mohd Saleem Malik, Addl SP Chowhan and Tehsildar Thanamandi distributed cheques worth Rs 1.50 lacs each to the kith and kin of the families who bear a irreparable loss.
Khan visited various affected areas along with Superintending Engineer Hydraulic Circle Rajouri Riyasat Khan, AEEs of respective areas, Tehsildar Rajouri Abdul Qayoom, EO Municipality Manzoor Lone, Police officers and various other members of District administration and took stock of problems being faced by the public in Aitti, Darhali Morh, Lower Dhanore, Muradpur, Alpha Gate, Tariq Bridge and Bela Colony which is much affected due to river flowing inside the colony. People of the area apprised the MLA about their losses due to heavy rains and flash floods.
Khan on spot issued instructions to the concerned officers to install machines for the immediate relief of the public and told them that the rescue work must be started within 4 hours. Khan said while sanctioning the Rs 23 crore project of Abdullah Bridge-2, a permanent solution for the safety of Bela colony was also kept under consideration and the same shall be executed soon as the Bridge is almost complete and work of road is in progress.
The MLA asked the concerned Tehsildars to prepare the details of losses and project the same to the higher ups so that people are provided ex-gratia at an earliest. Those who lost their houses must be provided temporary residential accommodation in Government buildings so that they could get a sigh of relief, he added.
