MENDHAR, Dec 26: Dozens of mines exploded along the Line of Control (LoC) in Balakote area of Mendhar after massive forest fire this evening.
Official sources said that fire started from PoK side near Pakistani posts, Goga and Cheel, under 650 Mujahid Regiment at around 4 pm. Thereafter, it spread on this side of the LoC covering larger area of Balakote block. The deafening sounds of explosions created panic in the entire belt.
The fire also spread near Indian posts Rani Tekri and Nad Galla on this side. With the spreading of fire near the Indian posts, the troops got alerted sensing intrusion from the PoK side.
The thick dense smoke of fire often helps terrorists to infiltrate into this side. The troops increased their vigil after this incident and were trying to contain it. For the past some time, there are frequent incidents of forest fire in this particular belt.
