Several drugs seized, 8 firms closed for violation of prescribed norms

JAMMU, Dec 2: A team of  Drugs and Food Control Organization conducted surprise inspection of pharmacies in twin districts of Rajouri, Poonch and seized some drugs besides closing down operations of eight firms for  violation of prescribed norms.
The  team of officers,  under the supervision of Mohd Iqbal  Pala, Assistant Drugs Controller, Jammu, was deputed by Controller, Drugs & Food Control Organization. During the drive,  all the major Tehsil headquarters  were covered and more than eighty statutory drug samples belonging to various categories of drugs viz Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPT’s),  Antipyretic, Analgesics, Anti hypertensive’s, Anti diabetics, Anti allergic etc were lifted and dispatched to Drug Testing Laboratories for expert opinion with respect to their quality..
One drug,  namely PILTOP-DSR (Rabeprazole Sodium & Domperidone Capsules), manufactured by  M/s  Psychotropic India Ltd., Plot No: 12 & I2A, Industrial Park-Z, Phase-l Salempur Mehmood, Haridwar- 249403 (Uttarakhand),  was lifted on complaint basis from M/s Simran Medical Agency, Poonch. The left over stocks of this drug have been freezed upto the distribution level   till such time a satisfactory report with respect to  its quality is obtained from Government Analyst.
Further, operations of eight firms were closed on spot by the Licensing Authority who were found  indulging in contravention of the various provisions of Drugs & Cosmetics Act,1940 viz Non maintenance of Sales& Purchase Records,  Absence of Approved Qualified Person/Insanitary & Unhygienic Conditions, etc. Show Cause Notices have been served upon all these firms for  explaining their positions w.r.t observed omissions.
The team also conducted routine checks of Drugs Stores of Government institutions and  issued instructions to the concerned responsible authorities to improve storage conditions so that  properties of drugs can be preserved during shelf  Iife.
The dealers were also impressed upon to implement the mandate of Schedule H I Drugs in letter  and  spirit failing which action contemplated under law shall be initiated against such defaulters.
The trade representatives at Tehsil levels were sensitized to cooperate with District
Administration and  work in coordination to curb the menace of Habit Forming Drugs which is  posing a serious threat to the society particularly adolescent.
