Serious problem for women is personal security and safety: HC Justice

Hyderabad, Jan 24:  Andhra Pradesh High Court Justice and Chairperson AP Judicail Academy G Rohini today said one of the serious contemporary problems being faced by women in India is personal security and safety.

Participating as chief guest in an annuval day meeting of Indian Women Network (IWN) an initiative of Confederation of  Indan Industry (CII) after releasing a ‘Handbook on Women and Human Rights’ here, Ms Justice Rohini said ‘The Constitution of India empowers the state to make special provisions for promoting the welfare of women and to eliminate inequalities in status, facilities and opportunities.

Working women are vulnerable to violence in one form or the other. It creates a hostile and insecure work environment which discourages women participation in work thereby effecting their social and economic environment and inclusive growth.    To address the same, the Supreme Court of India had laid down the guidelines for the The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace

(Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.    The Act defines sexual harassment at the work place and creates a mechanism for redressal of complaints.    The handbook released today would be helpful to the working women to know their legal rights and remedies, she said. (UNI)
