Srinagar, July 27: Security forces today conducted a search and cordon operation in Havoora village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district after receiving input about the presence of militants.
Security forces including army’s 3 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operation Group (SOG) of police cordoned of Havoora and its adjoining areas at 4 am today. The security forces had received input about the two militants in the area.
Sources said that the forces asked residents to come out of their houses for frisking. They also conducted house-to-house searches to nab the militants.
However, the cordon and search operation was called off at around 9:30 am as no militant was found there.
The security men in South Kashmir have stepped up anti-militancy operations since the pictures and a video of gun-toting militants went viral on social media. The operations have also been stepped up given the reports of large number of local youths joining militant ranks.
Meanwhile, the violence between locals and security forces erupted at Havoora after youth pelted stones on search parties. The violent clashes broke out in the area after which police lobbed teargas shells to disperse the protesters.
