RAJOURI, Sept 9: The district administration Rajouri imposed Section 144 in the town fearing communal clash over a ‘disputed’ piece of land in the heart of the town here today.
Reports said that there was an open piece of land in the heart of Rajouri town in Ward 12 and the people used to throw garbage there for the last more than 6-7 decades. Some people from one majority community cleaned the land a couple of days ago and declared that they are going to construct a religious structure there.

Some people from the minority community of the locality objected and said since the land is lying vacant for decades and the place is also dominated by minority community, they will not allow worship place of other community. They will raise their own religious place there. They demanded either a temple or a library or park be raised there.
The members of other community claimed that the said land belonged to Auqaf and they will go ahead with the construction. The situation became tense over the issue. Moreover, due to the FIR against a JKAS officer and demanding arrest by the other community members there was possibility of protest rallies today.
So, sensing trouble and possible clash after Friday prayers between the two communities, the district administration imposed Section 144 in Rajouri. Most of the shops and other business establishments besides schools and colleges remained closed in Rajouri today. Additional police force was deployed at various places as precautionary measures.
