Second phase of NPR Smart Card starts

JAMMU, Nov 26: Directorate of Census Operations, Jammu & Kashmir and district administration, Jammu in collaboration with Electonics Corporation of India Ltd. (ECIL) and Comtech Info Solutions Pvt. Ltd. today started the process of 2nd Phase of National Population Register (NPR) Smart Card in Municipal Committee, Bishnah.
The camp for registration of NPR Smart Card was inaugrated by MLA, Ashwani Kumar Sharma and Director Census Operations, J&K  R.K. Bhagat. The MLA appealed to the public  to take benefit of the Scheme and ensure 100 % enrolment of BME at each camp
Mr Bhagat informed that the 1st Phase of NPR was  conducted in the year 2010. He highlighted the objectives of NPR Smart Card and said that this will create a comprehensive identity data base  in the country with full identification and other details by registering each resident; helping better targeting of the benefits and services under various Government Schemes/Programmes; improve planning and prevent identity fraud.
He also emphasised that NPR Smart card is mandatory and must even if one has already Aadhar number. He  impressed upon Enumerators    and Supervisors  to work with zeal  and dedication to complete this important assignment in time so as to extend benefit  to general public.
A large number of persons earlier enlisted in NPR  turned up enthusiastically and seeing the response from the public, it is expected that biometric process would be completed in stipulated time.
