Searches enter Day 7 in Mendhar

POONCH, Oct 17: Search operations for the militants in Bhatta Durrian forests in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district today entered Day 7 with troops resorting to heavy firing and launched rockets aiming militants but there were no reports of any casualties of the ultras so far.

Additional DGP Jammu Mukesh Singh today reached Mendhar to supervise the operation and review security situation in the border district of Poonch.
Reports said no formal contact with the militants has been established since October 14 when four Army jawans including a JCO were martyred.
However, troops fired heavily towards some directions aiming the militants but there were no reports of any casualties.
A total of nine Army soldiers, two of them JCOs, have been martyred so far in one of the longest search operations which had started on October 11 from Chamrer forests of Surankote tehsil in Poonch district.
