SDS finalises programme for Dushera celebrations

JAMMU, Oct 10: Sanatan Dharam Sabha (SDS) today finalized the programme for celebration of annual Dushera festival which marks the victory of good over evil.
Giving details about the celebrations of the festival, president SDS Jagdish Dogra and its general secretary, Krishan Gopal Aggarwal said as usual the celebrations will be held at Parade Ground here.
The duo also expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made by various Government agencies and social organisations in this regard.
Maintaining that Dushera is the festival which is celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil they said, the actions of an individual are responsible for his progress and downfall.
If the actions are good the individual will prosper like any thing and if they are bad he will meet a downfall, they said, adding Dushera has a historical background and is celebrated in the victory of Lord Rama over demon King Ravna.
Giving background of the Dushera celebrations in the State, Jagdish Dogra said in earlier times the rulers of the State celebrated it as a Government function. But presently it is one of the biggest functions in the State organized by SDS, he added.
He said the Jhanki of Lord Rama, Lakshman and Sita will start from Shri Sanatan Dharam Natak Samaj Dewan Mandir at 3-30 pm and after passing via Moti Bazar, Raj Tilak Road, Purani Mandi, Daya Nand Marg, City Chowk, Raghunath Bazar it will reach Raghunath Mandir where the historical Rath will join it and after passing via Raghunath bazar, Shalimar road it will reach the Parade Ground the venue of Dushera function at 5pm where the effigies of Ravan, Kumbkaran and Meghnath will be torched.
Jagidsh Sharma senior vice president SDS, Sat Pal Singh Rathore, Pawan Pandoh and Vijay Mehra were also present in the press conference.
