SC/ST/OBC Confederation seeks restoration of reservation in promotion

JAMMU, Feb 5: Hundreds of people belonging to SC, ST and Other Backward Classes (OBC) under the banner of All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organizations, holding banners and placards in their hands, organized a protest rally at JDA Parking, opposite Hari Singh Park, Jammu, seeking restoration of reservation in promotions, besides highlighting other demands.
The protesting people were stressing for clearing backlog of thousands of vacancies meant for SC/ST/OBCs, waiver of admission fees for students belonging to eligible SC/ST/OBC and poor students, implementation of 27% reservation for OBCs and enhancement of income slab for the OBCs at par with that at the Centre, extension of SC ST (Prevention of Atrocities Act),State budgetary allocation for special component plan and adequate provisions for strict utilization of same.
They also emphasized for providing shelter homes to the homeless, providing equal opportunities to SC/ST/OBCs in the matter of posting/transfers on strategic posts, political reservation to STs, devising mechanism for redressal of atrocities upon SC/ST/OBCs, extension of jurisdiction of National Commission for SC and STs to the J&K state, opening of special police stations for SCs and STs every district and reservation in private sector for SC/ST/OBCs.
The protesting people also demanded opening of coaching centers for All India Services, new welfare schemes for Wattal/Safai Karamcharis/Refugees, adequate budgetary allocation under SCP/STP, stop dilution of ST status, result oriented coaching centre for SC/ST/OBC and opening of National SC-ST Hub for development of entrepreneurs.
Speaking on the occasion, RK Kalsotra, State president, SC/ST Confederation, said that the Government which has not been able to ensure reservation rights to reserved categories of the State doesn’t have any right to rule.
“Empowerment of deprived is essential to raise happiness quotient and the demands raised by the Confederation should be worked upon immediately failing which the Confederation shall be coerced into adopting different modes of protest including Assembly Gherao”, he said and submitted a memorandum of demands to Additional DC Jammu.
