SC/ST retired employees condemn AVM agenda

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Oct 1: A meeting of All J&K SC & ST Retired Employees Forum (SCSTREF) was held today under its president Prof (Dr) G L Thapa which among other things discussed the issue of Aarakshan Virodhi Manch (AVM) for abolition of caste based reservation raised in their meeting held at Pouni few days back.
The Forum strongly condemned the agenda of Aarakshan Virodhi Manch and appealed the Government that instead of abolishing reservation they should come up with more schemes and scholarships for the meritorious youth of the poor families of the upper caste so that they don’t feel discriminated and overlooked.
As per AVM, it seems that reservation has so far fractured the Hindu Society and weakened it, which is not true, on the contrary caste system has weakened and fractured the society.
The Forum has informed AVM that as per the figures quoted by the Chief Minister in her statement in recent past statement during Legislative session that there are a total of 4,84,901 Government employees barring autonomous bodies, corporations, of which 108412 are from reserved categories (RBA 46270), LOC 5369, Social Castes 4702 and Scheduled Castes 17350. Moreover under RBA and LOC categories reservation is provided to upper caste people only, while several SC and STs are also eligible for reservation in RBA and LOC categories.
