Srinagar, Aug 25: Several trout fish were found dead due to water poisoning in a pond in Natnusa area of Handwara in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district today.
Several dead fish floating on the surface of the pond in the afternoon. Residents said that the apparent cause of the death seems to be the poising. “It looks someone has added poisonous substance in the lake and that leads to the death of numerous fish,” a local said, adding that they immediately informed the concerned department.
The locals demanded that the incident should be investigated and offenders brought to book. “The miscreants should be given stern punishment,” they said.
When contacted, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Nazir Ahmad said that he would look into the matter. “I am unaware of the incident. I will look into it,” he said.
