This has reference to the news item ‘Altaf announces establishment of 2 Science Museums in J&K ‘ DE June 15, 2017.
The decision of the Education Minister to establish two science museums in Srinagar and Jammu is more than welcome. The establishment of these museums will go a long way in promoting scientific temperament among the student community in the State. This will to some extent compliment the short comings in our school laboratories. The teaching of Science subjects in State school is quite sub-standard.
No emphasis is laid on conducting practicals in laboratories by Science teachers or by heads of institutions. The stress is on theory lectures which do not in any way inculcate any scientific tamper or generate enthusiasm for Science subjects among the student community. That is why we do not produce competent people from institution, nor have we created sufficient infrastructure in our educational institution to promote Science.
