NEW DELHI, July 28 : ‘Science Express’, an innovative mobile exhibition mounted on a specially designed 16 coach AC train, was jointly flagged off today from here by Union Minister of Railway Sadananda Gowda, Minister of Science & Technology Dr Jitendra Singh and Minister of Information & Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar.
Beginning from today, the Science Express train will cover 57 locations on broad gauge network of Indian Railways.  Of the 16 coaches of Science Express “Biodiversity Special”, 8 are dedicated to showcasing the myriad biodiversity spread across all the bio-geographical zones of India while the remaining 8 coaches have interesting and informative exhibits on climate change.  A popular “Joy of the Science Lab” mounted on an exclusive coach is of particular interest for young students.
Speaking on the occasion, Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda congratulated all the three Ministries and the officials for this successful venture. He said, Science Express is actually a “noble express” because it is going to serve a very noble cause.
Gowda described the flagging off of Science Express as a major event after his taking over the charge as Railway Minister.
Dr Jitendra Singh, whose Department of Science and Technology has provided all the infrastructural support in various exhibition- coaches of the train, said that the Science Express is a true personification of the Mantra of “Speed, Skill and Scale” given by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said, Railways has always symbolized travel, adventurism, discovery of new destinations and flight of romantism and said, a train carrying a message of science is the greatest medium for uniting different sections of society living in a country as vast and heterogeneous as India.
Dr Singh said, Science Express will not only carry science to the door-step of the remotest of remote but will also serve as an inspiration for young children to develop an aptitude for experimentation, innovation and creativity.
Speaking on the occasion, Information & Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said that Science Express train is like “Science on Wheels” and will serve the purpose of educating those who have lesser access to science education. He promised that all the information inputs will be provided by his Ministry inside the exhibition-coaches of the train.
