JAMMU, Apr 15: Director School Education, Simrandeep Singh today ordered merger of a school, which was opened in violation of rules and putting lives of the students at grave risk.
According to the order, Government Primary School, Ambika Colony, Zone Purmandal was set up in the year 2003-04 under Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in the home of one Charanjit Singh at Bye Pass, Kunjwani.
Since then the school was functioning with an enrolment of 28 students in two small rooms and two regularized ReT teachers were posted in the school. This school was opened despite the fact that nearest Primary School functioning in a Government building is situated at a distance of only one kilometer from the Primary School, Ambika Colony.
Stating that as per SSA norms a new Primary School can be opened if there is no other school within a radius of 1 to 1.5 kilometer of the existing school, the Director said that a study was undertaken in respect of each student of Primary School, Ambika Colony and it was found that the distance on average comes out to be only one kilometer.
The continuance of Government Primary School, Ambika Colony at the private building was considered inappropriate on account of the facts that the school has very little accommodation for 28 students so much so that the Mid Day Meal kitchen was being operated within the class room itself.
“Since the students studying in Primary School, Ambika Colony are residing within a distance of only one kilometer from Primary School Langer, all the students along with the staff of Government Primary School, Ambika Colony have been shifted to Government Primary School Langer”, the order said.
According to the sources, not only the students were studying in congested accommodation their lives were also at risk as mid day meal was also being prepared in the class rooms by using LPG gas.
