Scare after youth opens fire in marriage party

KATHUA, Sept 26: A scare was created at border village of Nagri as a youth accompanying a marriage party opened fire during clash with some locals last night.
Reports said the incident took place when one Rohit Gupta, son of Kishore Gupta of Ward No. 7  Kathua, had gone to attend a marriage function at Jakhwad village near Nagri. During the marriage function at Nagri, he had some altercation with some youth followed by clash.
During the process, one Bal Krishan of Ward No. 9, accompanying the Barat intervened. Rohit, who is vegetable vendor at Kathua, took out a revolver and fired a round. One of the Baratis averted the incident as he caught hands of the Rohit and diverted the position of the revolver upwards. The accused youth however, managed to escape even after being chased by some Baratis. A scare was created and the ‘Baratis’ including women and children started running to safety.
Later, police party reached the spot. It started searches for the accused. The police seized a Honda City car without number plate, believed to be used by accused. A case was registered in this connection.
