Save Vishaw River

I
Sir,
Thanks a lot for highlighting the destruction of Vishaw river of Kulgam. I am very much impressed that a Jammu based newspaper has exposed the criminal acts being committed by Municipal Committee Kulgam and local District administration. Excelsior deserves appreciation. The article on pathetic condition of Vishaw river of Kulgam should be an eye opener for authorities who celebrate days like World Environment day. Dr Raja Muzaffar the author of the article “Save Vishaw river of Kulgam ” (Daily Excelsior 6.6.2019) has exposed the so called implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission and other schemes by Municipal Committee Kulgam and even Rural Development Department Kulgam / District Panchayat Officer. The local municipality is shamelessly burying tons of garbage near the bank of this nallah every day. Let me make it clear that Kulgam municipality is not only dumping the municipal waste on the banks of Vishaw river but the dangerous Bio Medical waste collected from District Hospital Kulgam is also dumped inside the river which is a heinous crime. Not only Municipal authorities are responsible for this criminal act but the District Hospital Kulgam , DC office Kulgam are also equally responsible for destruction of this famous river of south Kashmir. State Pollution Control Board has failed to act and I believe Judicial intervention is the only hope now. I appeal Judicial officers of higher and sub ordinate judiciary to be proactive on the issue of environment and seek an explanation from Government over this matter.

Sir,
This refers to ‘Save Vishaw of Kulgam’ by Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat published in Daily excelsior June 6th 2019. The author has rightly exposed the illegal dumping of Solid Waste by none other that the civil body itself (MC Kulgam) . It is appealed to the authorities especially Commissioner Secretary Environment and Forests , Chairman Pollution Control Board and DC Kulgam to stop the illegal dumping of Municipal Waste in Vishaw, as it can lead to a sever epidemic in future and that has been witnessed in the past also .The issue was raised many times but unfortunately no action was taken till date .
