JAMMU, Apr 20: Sarveshwar Organic Foods Limited today organised a seminar-cum-training programme for farmers at RS Pura.
On the occasion, Dr Pradeep Sharma, VC, SKUAST- J was the chief guest, whereas Rohit Gupta, MD, Sarveshwar Organic Foods Limited, Dr VP Singh, Director AIREA, Dr Ritesh Sharma, senior Scientist, BEDF, Dr JP Sharma, Dean, SKUAST, Bikram Singh, Head PBG, SKUAST, Dr Sunil Sahani, Director Input, Agriculture, Dr Rakesh Nanda, Extension Officer, Agriculture, Anil Sharma, GM, Sarveshwar Group, Suresh Singh Chauhan, DGM and Head, Seed/Organic, Dr Gayatri Tondon, DGM, Development and hundreds of farmers were also present.
During his speech Dr Ritesh Sharma stressed upon the need and importance of using organic methods for cultivating basmati rice.
Dr VP Singh shared his experience and history and origin of basmati rice in India. He also told the role and importance of APEDA in exports. He also stressed upon the need about organic farming and also shared his experience about cultivation of new basmati variety PB-1509.
Dr JP Sharma told about the decline of aroma in desi basmati. The factor responsible for decline in aroma of desi basmati was plantation of mix varieties, he added.
During his speech Dr Rakesh Nanda told that Extension Department is always trying to reach out to maximum farmers to give a strong message about organic farming and the department is always ready to help farmers in every manner.
Dr Pradeep Kumar Sharma told that method of cultivation should be in such a manner that environment should not be polluted. He stressed upon the need of having more and more KVKs.
Dr Bikram Singh and Dr SS Jamwal also expressed their views.
In the end, vote of thanks was presented by Rohit Gupta.
