RAJOURI, Dec 26: Several Sarpanchs from Thannamandi area today thronged the office of DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range, Dansh Rana and lodged their protest with him against the failure of local police to arrest the accused allegedly involved in murderous attack on Sarpanch Mangota-B yesterday.
Several Sarpanchs and some Panchs from the area today moved to the office of DIG at the district headquarters here and expressed their strong resentment against the Thannamandi Police for its alleged failure to nab the accused who allegedly attacked Sarpanch Mohd Hussain at Mangota village.
They alleged that 10 persons including a Forest guard allegedly attacked Sarpanch and another man Haji Muneer who tried to save Sarpanch. He too, was mercilessly beaten up. The Sarpanch was attacked with sharp edged weapons and lathis and he was later admitted to Rajouri hospital last evening.
They also demanded security for the Sarpanchs. They alleged that 10 accused persons ambushed when Sarpanch was returning home from Thannamandi. His cash Rs 1.50 lakh was also snatched by the attackers. They said that 10 accused persons including Forest guard Mohd Bashir, Manzoor Hussain, Mohd Shabir, Abdul Rashid, Mohd Farooq, Mohd Asif, Mohd Zubair and two others have been identified and named in the FIR but no body has been arrested. The DIG assured them and asked concerned SDPO and SHO to trace all the accused and put them behind the bars.
