Sarpanch, supporters booked for manhandling revenue official

KISHTWAR, June 22: A Sarpanch and his supporters have been booked for manhandling and assaulting a revenue officer.
As per police sources, a Patwari Abid Rashid Mughal went to Panchayat Halqa Keshwan on the directions of DC Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana for the distribution of Permanent Residence Certificates (PRCs) during ‘Back to Village’ programme.
The Sarpanch of Panchayat Keshwan along with his supporters started shouting against the Patwari and used criminal force to deter him from discharging his duties. The Sarpanch also snatched and torn out the PRCs.
Acting over the complaint of the Patwari, a case under Sections 323, 382, 427 and 147 has been registered against Sarpanch and other at Police Station Kishtwar and investigation started.
Meanwhile, All J&K Revenue Association District Unit Kishtwar has decided to hold three days token strike from June 24 to 26 to express their resentment against today’s incident during ‘Back to Village’programme at Keshwan.
“Keeping in view the sensitivity of the situation and the resentment among the revenue employees, All J&K Revenue Association District Unit Kishtwar has decided that if the culprits are not arrested till tomorrow evening, then the Association will go on three days token strike from June 24 to 26”, District Vice President of All J&K Revenue Association District Unit Kishtwar said in a handout addressed to Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana.
