JAMMU, Dec 20: Sarpanch Chowgam-A, district Kulgam, Vijay Raina was bestowed with national award for “Jal Sangrah” outstanding contribution in augmenting irrigation in his Panchayat by Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Agriculture and Forest, Government of India. Narender Singh Tomar, at New Delhi.
The award was given to him for the construction of irrigation channel under MGNREGA to irrigate the cultivated land which was facing the drought for some years as the traditional canal had become non -functional due to lack of maintenance by the Irrigation Department. Gram Panchayat took the initiative to construct the new channel on river Lamri l. After the construction of the channel around 52 hectares of land was irrigated which was on the verge of getting barren. Additional Secretary MGNREGA Rakesh Badyal and ACD & DPO Pulwama, Mir Nasrool Hilal accompanied him in the award function.
