JAMMU, June 9: As part of the centenary year celebrations of the famous Tamil poet Subrahmanya Bharathi, a program under the joint aegis of Central Sanskrit University, Shri Ranbir Campus, Jammu, and Cultural Development Yuva Sanstha (Youth Association for Cultural Development), Chennai, Tamil Nadu, was held at the university campus.
Sham Lal Sharma, Vice President of J&K BJP and former Minister, who was guest of honour on the occasion, said that we should preserve and promote our own language. He said that just as the organizations of Tamil Nadu have jointly taken the initiative to spread the message of the great Tamil poet of the country throughout India, similar efforts need to made to spread information about the languages and literature of J&K in India.
Sham Lal Sharma said that the partisan historians not only created a rift between North-South India but also made no effort to highlight the achievements of the Dogra kings of Jammu. He said that the other princely states of India continued to fight among themselves, while the Dogra kings, especially Maharaja Gulab Singh and his famous general Zorawar Singh, extended the borders of the State and India to the inaccessible Nepal, Tibet and Afghanistan in the west.
“But historians never discuss about it,” he said and called upon the new generation to increase their knowledge about the history of Jammu and Kashmir and propagate and disseminate it.
Prof Srinivas Varkhedi, Vice Chancellor of Central Sanskrit University, who was chief guest on the occasion, called upon the students to understand and work on principles of unity in diversity and social harmony of Mahakavi Subrahmanya Bharathi.
The cultural presentation in the program was made by the famous singer of Jammu, Seema Anil Sehgal. Along with presenting a Dogri folk song, she sung the Hindi translation of a Tamil poem by Mahakavi Subrahmanya Bharathi.
Earlier, the Campus Director, Prof Madan Mohan Jha welcomed and honored the guests. Dr Yogendra Dixit, the coordinator of the program, presented vote of thanks to participants of the programme, which was also organized through online mode.
