SAMBA, Aug 17: District Police Samba today foiled a bovine smuggling bid and rescued 10 bovine animals.
Police said a team of Police Station, Ghagwal headed by SI Bansi Lal, SHO, Ghagwal on the directives of SSP Samba, Dr Koshal Sharma under the close supervision of Deepak Digra, Dy.SP Hqrs Samba, during a routine naka checking at NHW Tapyal, signaled a truck to stop. The truck, with Registration Number JK02AS/8825 was coming from Kathua side towards Jammu but the driver on seeing the Police Party, accelerated the speed of the vehicle and tried to escape from the spot. After being chased by the Police, the driver abandoned the vehicle at National Highway Nonath and managed to escape from the spot.
During checking of the vehicle, 10 bovines were found laden inside the vehicle, which were being transported illegally. The vehicle was seized on spot and all the bovine animals were rescued. In this regard a case FIR No. 112/2018 U/S 188 RPC, 2/3 PCA Act has been registered at P/S Ghagwal and investigation is started.
Meanwhile District Police Samba arrested one drug peddler and recovered one Kg 100 gm Poppy Straw from him. Police said a team of Police Station, Vijaypur headed by SI Javid Iqbal under close supervision of Inspector, Rajinder Sharma, SHO Vijaypur and under the supervision of Baljeet Singh, SDPO Vijaypur during patrolling in Kothey area, Vijaypur intercepted one person on suspicious ground.
During frisking one Kg 100 gram Poppy Straw was recovered from his possession. The accused person has been identified as Harnam Dass S/o Gian Dass R/o Shiv Nagar, Vijaypur. The drug peddler was arrested on the spot and contraband item was also seized. In this regard a case FIR No. 110/2018 U/S 8/15 NDPS ACT has been registered in P/S Vijaypur and investigation started. The whole operation was conducted under the directives of Dr. Koshal Sharma, SSP Samba.
