Samba police arrests 8 bovine smugglers, rescues 39 animals

SAMBA, May 25: Police under the overall supervision of SSP Samba, Benam Tosh has arrested eight (8) notorious bovine smugglers, foiled three separate bovine smuggling attempts, rescued 39 bovine animals and seized two trucks.
Police said alert cops in Samba have foiled three separate bovine smuggling attempts, registered three separate FIRs Under Section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Section 188 IPC and arrested eight notorious smugglers. Further investigation is underway.
The bovines were being smuggled to Kashmir valley during odd night hours obviously to escape from police clutches, police added.
Arrested notorious bovine smugglers have been identified as Jalil Ahmed, son of Haji Saen of Kotha Kathli tehsil and district Samba, Shakoor Ahmed son of Sher Mohd of Gudhar Roun tehsil and district Udhampur, Latif Mohd, son of Gani of Roun Gudhar, tehsil and district Udhampur, Fareed Mohammad, son of Saraj Din of Roun Gudhar, tehsil and district Udhampur, Mudassir Hussain, son of Irshad Ahmed of Anantnag, Firdous Ahmed son of Mohammad Shafiq of Kokernag, Anantnag, Marad Ali son of Yousf Ali of Manyari tehsil, Hiranagar district, Kathua and Mohammad Iqbal son of Rashid Ahmed of Katal Brahmana tehsil Hiranagar district Kathua.
Bovine smuggling attempts were foiled by police team comprising of in charge Police Post (PP) Mansar PSI, Deepak Sharma and in charge Police Post (PP) Rakh Amb Talli PSI, Vineet Singh under the supervision of SHO Police Station, Samba, Rajeshwar Singh, Deputy SP, Garu Ram Bhardwaj and Additional SP, Samba Surinder Choudhary.
Total 65 bovine smugglers have been arrested by Samba Police in four months after the launch of special drive on the directions of SSP Samba Benam Tosh, 55 FIRs have been registered against bovine smugglers, 45 vehicles used for bovine smuggling have been seized and 576 bovine animals have been rescued in Samba district.
