SaMaPa brings together young maestros of Indian music to raise funds

JAMMU, Oct 2: SaMaPa (Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts) organized the second music concert in Capital to raise funds for the victims of the devastating floods in Jammu & Kashmir State. The concert titled ‘Concert for Kashmir’ was held in collaboration with India Habitat Centre & Old World Culture featuring some of the best young maestros of Indian music like Abhay Rustum Sopori (Santoor), Ajay Prasanna (Flute), Chandrima Majumdar (Sarod), Meeta Pandit (Vocal), Nitin Sharma (Vocal), Ojesh Pratap Singh (Vocal), Ragini Rainu (Sufi Vocal), Ritesh & Rajnish Mishra (Vocal), Salil Bhatt (Satvik Veena), Saskia Rao De Haas (Cello) and Shubhendra Rao (Sitar) joined by Athar Hussain, Gyan Singh, Mithilesh Jha, Sachin Sharma (Tabla), Paromita Mukherjee (Harmonium) Rishi Shankar Upadhyay (Pakhawaj) and Parveen Sethi (Percussions) along with Munish Jolly who coordinated the proceedings of the concert.
Pandit Bhajan Sopori while speaking on the occasion said, “the recent floods have perhaps been the worst natural catastrophe Jammu and Kashmir State has faced. It’s our attempt, through these concerts, along with other groups and individuals from all over the world who are contributing enormously expressing their support to ensure the State especially  the Valley restores its glorious title of the “paradise on earth’ including the initiatives and works by State and the Central Govt.”.
The ‘Concert for Kashmir’ is an initiative and part of the series of fund raiser programmes organized and conceived by the great music legend Pandit Bhajan Sopori, hailed as the cultural bridge of J&K with the rest of the country, and maestro Abhay Rustum Sopori. “The musical evening is organized to express the solidarity and raise funds and concern for the flood victims. “I wished to bring together some of the best musicians of the present generation and stand for my State at this time of need,” said maestro Abhay Rustum Sopori.
