MUMBAI:
Salman Khan starrer “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” has grossed over Rs 27.25 crore on the opening day and the distributors expect excellent showing over the weekend.
The 49-year-old actor’s film, which is said to be critics and box office proof, did well on the eve of Eid and has positive word-of-mouth.
“Eros international and SKF announce outstanding opening day collection of Rs 27.25 crore India NBOC for ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’,” a statement from the ditributors read.
The cross-border drama is about a Bajrangbali (Hanuman) devotee, Pawan Kumar Chaturvedi (Salman), who travels to Pakistan to escort a six-year-old mute girl to her village.
Directed by Kabir Khan, the film also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and child actress Harshaali Malhotra.
“#BajrangiBhaijaan Fri? 27.25 cr (pre-Eid). SUPERB… Today onwards [Eid], biz should only zoom upwards… #Kick ? 26.40 cr (pre-Eid),” box office analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The film, however, could not beat the record set by SS Rajamouli’s multi-lingual epic “Baahubali”, which earned Rs 50 crore on the opening day. (AGENCIES)
